What We Believe

The members of Monadnock Bible Baptist Church (MBBC) have been “born again” (Jn 3:7), by receiving forgiveness of sins (Ep 1:7), offered by the Lord Jesus Christ (1Jn 1:9) who paid the price with his blood (Ro 3:25, 2Co 5:21). We believe salvation is provided by the grace of God and is appropriated through faith in his words, without works (Ep 2:8-9), to all people everywhere (Jn 3:16, Ro 5:18). Having confessed our sins, we now repent and desire to turn toward God (Ro 10:9-10, 2Pt 3:9). We believe the Holy Spirit, the third person in the Trinity, completely indwells the believer at the moment of salvation (Ro 8:9, Ep 1:13, 1Co 2:12).

The members of MBBC have been baptized by immersion (the first act of obedience to Christ), and as a public testimony of our salvation (Ac 8:36-37). This act establishes a starting point for a whole life of obedience to the Savior: becoming his disciples.

We believe “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2Ti 3:16). We believe the Bible has been preserved without error and is complete, in the English language, as the 1611 King James translation, commonly referred to as the Authorized Version. We believe the Scriptures are the only authority for doctrine and practice in the church.

We believe the church was created and is sustained by the Lord Jesus Christ (Mt 16:18). We believe the church is a local, independent, autonomous body of believers, called to the purpose of exhorting the brethren, teaching sound doctrine and proclaiming the gospel (Ac 2:46-47, 11:26, 1Ti 3:15). We believe the local New Testament church should be self-governed and self-supported and should be led by pastor/elders with the assistance of deacons (1Pt 5:1-3, 1Ti 3:1-13, Ti 1:5-9). We believe the church has two principle missions: to evangelize the world (Ac 1:8) and train disciples (Mt 28:19-20, Lu 9:23-26).

We believe genuine, born-again believers in Christ should seek to live holy lives, separated from all worldliness (2Co 7:11, 1Th 4:7, 1Ti 4:7, 6:11) and by doing so, grow in faith and grace (2 Co 1:12, Ti 2:12, 2Pt 3:17-18). We believe true, spiritual and eternal fruit can be produced by the believer as a result of complete surrender to the will of God (Jn 15:16, Ro 12:1- 2, 2Co 6:19-20). We believe that godly love (1Co 13:4-8) is the earmark of a genuine Christian. That love is expressed in worship of the Savior (Mt 22:37-38, 1Co 16:22, 2Th 3:5) love for the brethren (Jn 13:34-35, Ro 12:10, Ga 5:13, He 10:24) and compassion for unbelievers (Mt 9:36, Mt 22:39-40, Mk 6:34, Mk 16:15, Jude 22-23).

We believe that we are living in the “last days” (1Ti 4:1-3, 2Ti 3:1, 2Pt 3:3, 1Jn 2:18) that began at the crucifixion of Christ (He 1:2, He 9:26) and extend to his second coming (2Ti 4:8). This knowledge helps us to set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth (Col 3:3) and wait for his coming (1Th 1:10, 2Ti 4:3-5).
